Hatshepsut (c.1507-1458 BC) was one of Egypt's most successful pharaohs, expanding trade and raising grand monuments while ruling as a woman in a king's role. Wu Zetian (624-705 AD) was the only woman in Chinese history to rule as emperor in her own right, expanding the Tang dynasty.
